My work mainly explores identity, trauma, and the exploration of the unknown. I try to make the forms of representation familiar but also culturally specific or aware, often using the symbolism of trees and dreams. I want them to be suggestive but individual. In my drawings and paintings, I am using the figure to convey my own psychological state, specifically feelings of sadness, fear, and worry, and how these feelings can become entangled both internally and externally. My use of line in my work is used to express this feeling of entanglement through texture and pattern that are similar to that of gnarled trees. I draw my way through the morass of anxiety to create new kinds of human forms, and spirituality has a role in my work that I continue to think about.
